Colorado cliff jumping spots
Colorado has famous jumps and a lot of closed ones. Baker's Bridge outside Durango sits on private land with jumping prohibited, the Jump Rock at Green Mountain Reservoir is under a Forest Service closure order after a fatal jump, and Larimer County bans it across Horsetooth — so those are deliberately not on this map. What is here is the granite on Fourmile Creek, the Roaring Fork on Independence Pass, and the quieter pools in the San Juans, all of them short-season snowmelt where the current matters more than the height.

Cliff jumping in Colorado: common questions
- Where can you go cliff jumping in Colorado?
- SmartLeap maps 6 cliff jumping spots in Colorado across 6 counties, concentrated around the Roaring Fork, the San Juans, the South Park granite. Every listing gives the jump heights, the water depth where someone has measured it, how to get there and what the hazards are.
- What is the highest cliff jump in Colorado?
- The tallest jump mapped here is 80 ft at Black Hole (Two Buttes). Height is not the same as safety: depth under a jump changes with the season, so check your own landing before anyone goes off it.
- Is cliff jumping legal in Colorado?
- It depends on who manages the land. Spots that a land manager has closed to jumping are deliberately left off this map, and where a place has a posted rule — a height limit, a waiver, a seasonal closure — the spot page says so. Signs on site always win over anything written here.
- When is the season for cliff jumping in Colorado?
- Most of it runs from mid-July into September, after spring runoff drops out of the rivers and the water has had a few weeks of sun. Early-season flows are the thing that actually kills people, not the height of the rock.
