Wyoming cliff jumping spots

Wyoming jumping splits between the granite in the northwest and the reservoir rock out east. Around Jackson the water is snowmelt and the jumps are short and cold; on the North Platte southwest of Casper the rock stacks up into 60-foot territory over warmer water. Everything above 7,000 feet is a July-to-September season, and most of it is a walk in.

Cliff jumping in Wyoming: common questions

Where can you go cliff jumping in Wyoming?
SmartLeap maps 4 cliff jumping spots in Wyoming across 3 counties, concentrated around Jackson Hole and the Tetons, the Wind Rivers, the North Platte near Casper. Every listing gives the jump heights, the water depth where someone has measured it, how to get there and what the hazards are.
What is the highest cliff jump in Wyoming?
The tallest jump mapped here is 65 ft at Alcova Reservoir cliffs (8 Ball cove). Height is not the same as safety: depth under a jump changes with the season, so check your own landing before anyone goes off it.
Is cliff jumping legal in Wyoming?
It depends on who manages the land. Spots that a land manager has closed to jumping are deliberately left off this map, and where a place has a posted rule — a height limit, a waiver, a seasonal closure — the spot page says so. Signs on site always win over anything written here.
When is the season for cliff jumping in Wyoming?
Most of it runs from mid-July into September, after spring runoff drops out of the rivers and the water has had a few weeks of sun. Early-season flows are the thing that actually kills people, not the height of the rock.
