The big-air spot for central Wyoming: a cove on Alcova Reservoir southwest of Casper with a stack of ledges — roughly 15 to 20 feet, 30, 40, and a top jump reported at 65 to 70 feet. Warm red-rock country, warm water by Wyoming standards, and a long drop for anyone who wants it.

Warnings

The 65-footer is an expert jump and the depth under it is not posted — this is a reservoir that gets drawn down, so what was deep in June may not be in September. Check the landing from the water first, every trip. Wind comes up hard in the afternoon here and the boat traffic uses the same cove.

Access

Natrona County's Alcova Reservoir, about 30 miles southwest of Casper off WY-220. The pin is Alcova Lakeside Marina on Lakeshore Drive — keep driving past it to the end of the road and walk toward the cliffs; the cove is obvious once you are on the rock. County day-use and camping fees apply at the developed beaches.

Best conditions

June through August, when the reservoir is near full and the rock is warm.
