A calm, deep cove off the lower Deschutes on the Harpham Flat to Sandy Beach run through Maupin, with a 12-foot basalt ledge that every rafting company stops at. The White River rock slides are on the same stretch.

Access
River access. Put in at Harpham Flat and take out at Sandy Beach on the Deschutes River Access Road (BLM boater pass required), or ask a Maupin outfitter to stop there on a full-day trip.
Best conditions
July and August. The Deschutes runs cold from snowmelt until midsummer.
