Gull Lake rope swings (June Lake)

Confirmed by 0 jumpers

Two rope swings on the west shore of Gull Lake, the small one in the June Lake Loop under Carson Peak. The lake sits at 7,600 feet with Sierra granite behind it, so the setting is enormous and the water is cold enough to make the swing a quick decision.

Warnings

Nobody has measured the depth under these swings — check it yourself, and look at the rope and the branch before you commit. At 7,600 feet the water stays cold all summer, which is the actual hazard: cold shock on entry, and a harder swim back than you expect.

Access

June Lake Loop (CA-158), Inyo National Forest, about 20 minutes north of Mammoth. Park at Gull Lake and take the 2-mile shoreline loop; the swings are on the western edge. Free day use, and the loop road closes with snow in winter.

Best conditions

July through September. Mornings are glassy; afternoon wind comes up the canyon most days.
