A desert oasis in a basalt canyon between Wenatchee and Quincy: a small, wide waterfall, natural waterslides, and lichen-covered ledges over plunge pools. The BLM Douglas Creek area is one of the few swimming holes on the Columbia Plateau.

Warnings

Flash floods are possible in the canyon, cell service is unreliable, and rattlesnakes are common. Pools are shallow away from the falls.

Access

From SR 28 take Palisades Road, then Moses Coulee Road and Slack Canyon Road; the last stretch is primitive gravel with a creek crossing, so park at the pullout if the water is up. Free BLM site, about 1.7 miles from the crossing to the parking area above the creek.

Best conditions

Late May through July; the pools shrink by August.
