A narrow, fjord-like reservoir in the mountains northeast of Ogden, with cliffs from about 10 to 40 feet lining the arms. There is no boat ramp and only wakeless speeds are allowed, so it stays quiet — most people paddle a board or kayak up the Narrows and jump from there. The classic northern Utah jumping trip.

Warnings

People have drowned here repeatedly — 1976, 1988, 1989, 2007, 2015, 2020 and 2025 — most of them swimming to or from the jumps without a life jacket, not jumping badly. Wear a PFD on the paddle, don't swim the arms, and treat the cold water as the actual hazard. Depths under individual cliffs are not posted.

Access

Causey Reservoir, Ogden Ranger District, up UT-39 about 15 miles northeast of Ogden (Weber Basin Water Conservancy District). No boat launch — carry in a paddleboard, kayak or packraft, or take the shoreline trail. Wakeless speeds only. The reservoir averages 65 feet deep and hits 182 feet, so the water stays cold.

Best conditions

May through July, while the reservoir is high. Water levels drop later in the summer and the jumps get taller and the landings shallower.
