The fishing access three miles south of Livingston where Paradise Valley opens out, and the bridge jump that counts as a Livingston rite of passage. It is also the put-in for the town float down to Mayor's Landing, so on a hot afternoon there is a steady parade of rafts under the jumpers.

Warnings

The height and depth here are not measured and the Yellowstone rearranges its bed every spring — check the landing before anyone jumps. This is a live road bridge: watch traffic, and if the site is posted against jumping, it is posted, so skip it. Strong current downstream of the piers, and floaters pass underneath all afternoon.

Access

Carter's Bridge Fishing Access Site (Montana FWP), 3 miles south of Livingston on US-89 then 1 mile east on Secondary 540. Day use only with a boat ramp and toilets; a gate added in 2026 limits access to 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. and no overnight camping.

Best conditions

Late July through September, after runoff drops and the river clears. The Yellowstone is big and pushy in June.
